The Acai Berry:
An AntiAging Super Food

Everywhere you go there are advertisements and commercials for different antiaging products and foods. One of these foods is the Acai berry. This fruit was named a “super food” by Oprah and is said to aid in the anti-aging process of humans.
 
The Acai berry is a small grape-like fruit that grows in the forests of Brazil. The berry itself has ten times more antioxidants than grapes and twice the number of antioxidants of blueberries. There are some omega-3 fatty acids in the berry as well as a considerable amount of vitamins that all help in the medicinal and health benefits of this small berry. The berry, which grows from a large palm tree in the rain forest, was originally used as an energy booster for hunting. The people of Brazil have added this berry into their diets for hundreds of years and the healing powers are legendary. It is only because of modern freezing that allows this perishable fruit to be transported to the United States where it is becoming more popular. The berry is said to be antibacterial, antimutagenic, and can help strengthen the cardiovascular system and digestive tract because of the healthy fats and the dietary fiber in the berry. The natural vitamin E in the berry helps specifically in the prevention of aging and also the prevention of free radical damage to the cells.    

The health benefits of the Acai berry are almost limitless and although the incorporation of Acai berries or Acai berry juice into one’s diet may help in slowing down the aging process, it is not the one magic berry that will stop you from getting older. Other precautionary measures such as having a balanced diet (which can include Acai berries on a daily basis), daily exercise, and wearing sun block can all slow down the process of aging.
